Sangeet Sharma, an Architect in the city of Chandigarh, India was born on 14th August, 1962. An illustrious son, along with his famous father are working together since 1989 under the firm S.D. Sharma & Associates. In Chandigarh the firm is highlyrespected and have done various important projects such as Advanced Pediatric Centre, New OPDBlock and advanced Eye Care Centre in PGI, Chandigarh, Institute of Microbial technology (IMTECH), Amadeus and Netsmartz IT Buildings in IT Park, Chandigarh, proposed Trade Centre and Entrepreneur development centre for Chandigarh administration in Chandigarh. The firm has also been commissioned to redevelop the Sub City Centre,Sector-34, a major urban design proposal and are also in the process of doing the original Architects’ Office in sector-19, where the first team of architects Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret worked – in creating it as a museum. The firm is also responsible in establishing and modeling the “City Museum” of Chandigarh in the Museum and Art Gallery. Sangeet finished his schooling from Bangalore from St. Joseph school and College and went to Lucknow to clear his Bachelors of architecture in 1987. He completed his Masters in Sustainable Architecture in 2005 and was awarded doctorate (Ph.D.) by the University of Berkley for his thesis and study of Architectural Aesthetics which also culminated in a book. The book is now being Translated in French and Italian by a leading publisher. In his individual professional capacity ,Sangeet has done various important projects such as; Boys’ Hostel at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, India, Himalaya Communication Ltd. – factory at Baddi, Timex Factory, Baddi, Amadeus, Virsa, YPS Hostel, different project at Jammu University, commercial Tower-Qatar, Interior for Union Bank, Net smartz. Sangeet has been a prolific author and has published a book titled “Architectural Aesthetics”. The book is an anthology comprising of twenty-four articles, essays on architecture. The author has delved into aspectsof architecture comparing its relation with other allied fields like art, painting, poetry ,music, metaphysics, spirituality, human emotions and primarily understanding of life through the noble profession of architecture. The collection stimulates and delights in the variety and diversity of architecture through varied processes of storytelling and the analysis of facts. Each article narrates its individual journey and experience by taking aids of built form across the world. Many travels to Indian sub continent and Europe have given an international dimensions to these writings. Covering wide range of topics and areas, the examples covered are from Chandigarh in India to site of Stonehenge in U.K. The collection offers fresh new perspectives on architecture andits histories withinthe arena of futuristic cultural studies. It provokes how many roles that buildings can play in the conscious and unconscious lives of human beings. It is the fine example to embrace plurality. He has also authored a very interesting book titled,” Architecture Life & Me” a very different genera in architecture writing, the book is one man’s journey discovering the many facets of life through the practice of architecture. Garnished with elegant sketches and interesting snippets of information about the art of architecture, the author shares his formative encounters with this field, while he takes a trip down memory lane, exploring all arts and their tangible and intangible relationship with design, Crossing the boundaries between memoir that captures the beauty, soul and inspiration of architecture. He is also and accomplished a book of poems titled a book of poems titled “The Touch of Moon”. He was awarded the Poet of the Year in 1992 by Poets Organization. His poetry has been widely published in magazines and newspapers. Working on sustainable projects as his co-research theme, Sangeet Sharma has designed important buildings based on the concept of energy saving and have contributed enormously in this field. He was awarded Commendation Certificate for the project “Boys’ Hostel at Mohali, Punjab” for Excellence in Built Environment for his contribution to the sustainable architecture in the building. Selected by Indian Buildings Congress on count of sustainable architecture, low cost features and adherence to local architectural idiom, Sanageet explains the concept, “Sustainable architecture means energy preserving and energy friendly. “Hence the building thrives on natural ventilation made possible through central courtyard, balconies and judiciously uses natural shading rooted in sciography, the science of shade. “Green buildings, “he reveals , “the in the in thing world over & India which boasts of the world’s best green building in Hyderabad needs to optimize its resources more than any other nation.” And yes tri-city, he thinks, is just right for eco buildings. “ Our founders laid a perfect foundation. “Besides imbbing the architectural philosophy of greats, he has inherited a splendid architectural legacy from father renowned architect S.D. Sharma who happens to be the master planner of NIIPER. Following the award, he founded the “A3 Foundation” (www.a3foundation.com) to promote and develop sustainable architecture n general and Chandigarh architecture in particular. The foundation no only recognizes the work of other architects but has already sponsoring in an glittering event in Chandigarh, India, to the NIT Hamirpur, awards to deserving students and teachers were given. Sangeet is a matured musician, music director, composer and singer. His songs for Rotary Foundations have been acclaimed internationally. He is also and awarded Painter and has been awarded Best Artist in Bangalore in 1992 by the World Wildlife Fund, Bangalore. He is an accomplished artist who was selected as 12 Best Artists in the state of Karnataka, Bangalore. He has rendered painting under the series “The space effect”. He is a visiting Professor in various colleges and institutes of architecture in India and abroad. He teaches architecture design, professional practice and theory of design as his pet subjects. He has been invited as a member of various juries, award competitions and for assessment of students in their thesis. Sangeet has been invited by the foundation “Le Corbusier” in Paris in 1999 as Key-note speaker to talk on the city of Chandigarh. He has also delivered lectures on “Aesthetics” for School of Arts in Malaysia and other universities in Dubai, Singapore and U.K. His next book titled “Corb’s Capitol” is scheduled to be released this year. Projects in hand include many IT parks in Chandigarh and northern region, biotechnology parks, hospital projects, industrial and housings, and plethora of corporate buildings.
